Stu Speirs is a major event strategy, planning and evaluation specialist. The Owner and Director of event planning and strategy consultancy Silver Lining Strategy, Stu has more than 10 years experience in exploring how events shape a community’s sense of identity and encourage investment. He worked at Events NSW (now Destination NSW) between 2008-2012 in senior research and strategy roles. Responsible for writing the business cases and strategy for development of events including Vivid Sydney, Tamworth Country Music Festival, the Australian Open of Badminton, and Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, this time at Events NSW sparked Stu’s passion for understanding the fundamental success factors at the heart of long-term sustainable events.
Since moving on from Destination NSW Stu has consulted in to a wide range of Tourism and Major Event industry stakeholders including; Tourism and Events Queensland, Longreach Regional Council, Bathurst Regional Council, City of Melbourne, Mackay Regional Council, Tourism WA, Hawaii Tourism Authority, Singapore Tourism Board and the South Australian Tourism Commission. Delving into the collective community psyche that underpins sustainable major events and how they contribute to place brand is what gets Stu out of bed in the morning.
